Fixed Braces

Fixed braces are the most common type of brace and are often referred to as "train tracks". The teeth have small “brackets” glued onto the teeth.

Small elastics are used to hold a wire into these that gently move the teeth into position. The brackets themselves are made of metal, ceramic or even gold and the elastics are available in a rainbow of different colours.

Fixed braces allow the greatest control over the final position of the teeth, giving the best possible results. Sometimes we may use one or more removable braces first in certain circumstances.

Tooth coloured ceramic brackets are also available, and are most often used for adults. They look much better, and are often barely noticed. We also use lingual fixed appliances; this is where the brackets are glued to the back of the teeth, very helpful for straightening front teeth where totally invisible braces are wanted.
